Legends of the creatures known as Gatormen can be traced back to the mid 1700’s and appear to have emerged from almost every large swampland in the American Southeast, most notably the Everglades of Florida. These Gatormen are often described as being approximately 5 feet long with a human torso that tapers off into the bottom half of an alligator, complete with long, muscular tail and stumpy gator like legs. The more human half of the body is said to be covered with a thin layer of greenish scales, its fingers and toes appear to have webbing between them and its mouth lined with what have been described as razor sharp teeth.
The Gatormen are also rumored to travel in small social tribes and have allegedly developed a very primitive language based on howls and grunts. Although tales of the Gatormen are more often than not attributed to over active imaginations and boredom, there are those researchers who have suggested that the Gatormen are simply a family of reptiles which evolved along a separate evolutionary path.
This small handful of researchers who believe in the existence of the Gatormen often point out reports which state these creatures have mastered the use of simple tools as further evidence to support their evolutionary theories.
